About
Ori Marcu is a mezzo-soprano from Brooklyn, NY, praised for her “well cultivated acting skills and comedic timing” (Palm Beach Daily News).
During the 2022/2023 season Ori participated in a number of competitions, reaching the final round of the Mildred Miller International Voice Competition, the semi-final round of the Camille Coloratura Competition, placing second in the Friends of Eastman Opera Competition, and winning first prize in the Kyrenia Opera Competition.
Ori has made numerous appearances in Eastman Opera Theater’s recent seasons including the roles of Bradamante in Handel’s Alcina and Tara in Anthony Davis’ Lear on the 2nd Floor. In 2024 Ori sang the roles of Adelaide (Guys and Dolls), Liesl (The Sound of Music) and Tessa (The Gondoliers) in Ohio Light Opera’s 45th season. Her performance as Adelaide was described as “brilliantly performed” by Cleveland Classical and also garnered praise from CityBeat with “the comic spotlight shines particularly on Ori Marcu […] Marcu’s rendering is a highlight”. In 2023 Ori was a Vocal Fellow in the Lakes Area Music Festival under the baton of Christian Reif and in 2022 she appeared as Mercury in Amherst Early Music Festival’s production of Daniel Purcell’s The Judgement of Paris under the direction of Grant Herreid and Julianne Baird.
Ori takes pride in her involvement in opera not only as a performer but as a crew member, having recently worked as assistant-director and stage-manager for Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra’s Rigoletto (2023) and as assistant-stage-manager in Eastman Opera Theater’s Florencia en el Amazonas (2023).
Ori joined Palm Beach Opera in 2023 as a Bailey Apprentice Artist where she studied the roles of Nicklausse (Les Contes d’Hoffmann) and Adalgisa (Norma) in their 2024 season. She was sponsored by David Brodsky and Anne Sternlicht.
